Congratulations to the Amnesty Winning Concepts!

Today we’re celebrating some amazing concepts from the Amnesty challenge. It’s been a fantastic challenge over the past 2 months and we have seen some wonderful concepts.

We have been inspired by the university student chapters that have formed around this challenge to brainstorm and prototype together. The OpenIDEO chapter at NYU-Poly ran a refinement workshop for their ideas. And a group of students in Tokyo ran OpenSTORMS for Amnesty, as well as getting feedback during the Refinement phase from Google Japan. A huge thank you to both groups for your outstanding efforts.

We commend all our student chapters and our entire community for participating and we hope you’ve also taken something away from the platform that will help you in other collaborative challenges for social impact.

At OpenIDEO, we celebrate our community and the ideas we generate together. Looking at the 16 shortlist concepts, it’s great to see so many virtual teams and that every concept was refined with such care and attention to detail.



It was difficult for the Expert Panel to pick the winning concepts, but in the end the panel settled on 9 ideas based on the criteria set out by Amnesty. These were selected due to their relevance to the core topic of unlawful detention, Amnesty’s work in this area and the evaluation feedback we received from the OpenIDEO community.
