Social Business Challenge Top 20

Our Grameen Social Business Challenge is moving full steam ahead! We’ve been bowled over by your smart, innovative and creative ideas to improve health through social business in Caldas, Colombia and around the world.

Over the course of our lightning fast Concepting round, the community came up with almost 100 incredible ideas. Yesterday, our OpenIDEO team and the folks from Grameen Creative Lab in Colombia met on Skype for a fun, spirited and thoughtful conversation where we chose the Top 20 Concepts moving forward into Evaluation.

Like all Evaluation meetings, our goal was to develop a shortlist that highlighted the best and the brightest from the community, balanced with the realities, opportunities and resources of the Grameen team in Caldas.

Together we reviewed all of your concepts and pulled together 20 terrific ideas to move forward into Evaluation. Some of these ideas are short-term “wins” that could have an immediate effect on health; others are longer-term, high-impact initiatives that will require extensive partnerships and resources to be realised. Some are obvious social businesses, while others might need to be iterated a bit to become one. No matter what, all of the ideas present incredible opportunities to raise awareness and change behaviors for improved health in low-income communities.

And now it’s your turn! Head on over to the Evaluation round and let us know which ones you think present the greatest opportunity to improve health. We’re eager to see what you think.

We’d also like to take a moment to recognize a select group of Honorable Mention concepts. While we won’t be evaluating these concepts during Evaluation, we want to congratulate the following OpenIDEATORS for their inspiring ideas!

Cheers, and see you over in Evaluation,
The OpenIDEO Team

PS – one additional thing to keep in mind is the Top 20 concepts can still be updated throughout Evaluation. Keep adding your thoughts, questions, and feedback via the comment field on each concept and the OpenIDEATORS behind the Top 20 can go in and update their ideas. Also, our friends at Grameen in Caldas just finished some additional research into health issues in Caldas – proving that the learning never stops!
