When a person is unlawfully detained, an entire community feels the ripple effects. One way to think about this community is as a ‘eco-system’; at the center is the person or people who are detained or at risk of detention, and their friends, family and community who are immediately affected. More broadly, the support network – made up of legal counsel, human right defenders, the media and organizations like Amnesty International offer guidance, resources and help.
