How can we improve sanitation and better manage human waste in low-income urban communities? Read the challenge brief

Concept

PIPIBOL*: for a more fragrant and clean city!

For thousands of years homo sapiens (particularly males) looked for tire o seeking a rock or a tree to pee. We could even call it "homo peepens" ... It would will be a REALLY good idea try to get him to change that pesky habit?
Men would will pee whenever they feel like. They can not hold their bladders for long, just as they can not hold your breath for a long time.
Once, I have thought about solutions to the sanitation of cities, but in spite of the ideas I had, pee public was still an unsolved problem in my head.

Then I thought, much of the urine is water. The problem is the odor and pathogens. If we could eliminate the odor and pathogens, which would really, the problem of peeing everywhere?
What if the pee fragrant stay?
What if, in addition to smelling good, pee shoo mosquitoes, including mosquitoes that transmit malaria?
Then, using the insights posted here on OpenIDEO, imagine this:

1 - A mini soccer game, where someone would use the force of the jet of pee to score goals (the people of Ghana are passionate about soccer …). The ball slides on a stick until you reach one of the goalposts;
2 - The mini game would be set in the walls of the places where people usually will pee. These places are easy to find (the smell ...);
3 - The field would be made of synthetic grass, so that no urine is splashed on user;
4 - The pee runs down the game and go through a reservoir where it would put the refill of a product which, in contact with urine, eliminate bad odors and pathogens;
5 - This product may contain natural elements that scared away mosquitoes, such as Citronella, for example, which would benefit the residents closest;
6 - The refills can be replaced by neighbors, local businesses, government and large corporations;
7 - Above the field, there would be an area for placement of product logos of sponsors, just like a real soccer stadium.

That's it. It's a simple concept. SEE THE IMAGES! They speak better than my English. What did you think?

*Pipibol is in portuguese, even though P-e-e-p-e-e-b-a-l-l in english!

Who could implement this?

  1. Local entrepreneur
  2. Multinational company
  3. Large NGO
  4. Government

1

How well does it meet the needs of the developing world?

It fulfills really well on the need its chosen to serve
It will help but other solutions might serve the needs better
It doesn't really address any of the needs of the developing world
2

How innovative is this concept?

It's completely new to the world
It's a good reinterpretation of an existing idea
There are some similar ideas
It's not innovative at all
3

How feasible is this concept to implement?

very high potential
It's good but need a lot of work
Its got too many open questions right now to say either way

Hey Alessandro! That's the great thing about collaborative inspiration, right? :^) Hope you're enjoying the new Collaboration Map feature which shows how your concept is inter-connected (up there in the right sidebar)

Thanks! I must confess that the greatest inspiration was same the soap stuck in the wall ... I know they're different things, but ... do what? The brain works in a weird way ... Thanks, Meena!

Very creative idea Alessandro! Love how you combined multiple inspirations from the gaming of urinal targets to the convenience of placing facilities where they are most needed to the waterless urinal disinfectants/deodorizers now found in many public bathrooms. In some cases, it may also be possible to add a simple privacy screen/sign that would obscure the user while also making the urinal station more visible/findable.

excellent idea! This could possiblt be combined with one of those hanging UV-lights that mosquitos and bugs get attracted to and get caught or killed by the voltage.

Also it would be very interesting to install on the other side of this wall a pipi-bol version for the ladies, so the score board is visible on both sides : Male "team" compete against the female "team" of being the best to "fill up the bowl"
