Chamber pots

Everyone in Kumasi seems to have a chamber pot which they use for “emergencies” in the middle of the night.
We learned that women typically urinate in chamber pots which are kept in the “bathroom” or tiled room for bucket bathing during the day instead of paying to use the public toilet. When any family member has an “emergency” and needs to use the toilet during the night, they will typically choose to use the plastic chamber pot (like the small teapot in the corner of this bathroom) instead of walking to the public toilet in the dark.

Chamber pots are typically placed in the bedroom at night and in the bathroom during the day. They are generally small, plastic containers with lids and can be purchased at any local markets.

Interesting. How are the chamber pot contents currently disposed of?

This seems like a good solution already in place in the homes. If people can be motivated to bring all the wastes to the public toilet, and develop the skills and means to keep the "bathroom" clean, this solution is a great partner for public toilets.
