How might we increase the availability of affordable learning tools & services for students in the developing world? Read the challenge brief

Concept

Great reward

Please visit ted.com and watch Nicholos Negroponte talking about education and reward. Be sure to watch all (even the one of 1984 even if at the beginning it will seem as irrelevant to the subject)
I think that the videos will explain better the lnk betwween education and the reward offered by computers and how it is a motivation forlearning more and more. Many posts talked about giving up used computers etc... although I agree with the "re-use" asoect but I don't totally agree that a used object, even if unaffordable, would be as motivating as a new, and specific product.

Who would implement this?

  1. NGOs and Foundations

Cost

Creating a very low cost learning tool is an affordable way already to consider the problem

Distribution & Delivery

Through goverments and NGO

Great!
But my thoughts are: would every child really need their own personal computer?
How about some sort of time share project ?
schedule the use of computers and internet so that many children can share it in study groups.

Another benefit from a laptop is that the screen could illuminate a book that another student is reading from to the side of the screen.
It would reduce the need for kerosene lamps (that are in another thread here, that I just posted a comment in)
