Interactive Classroom sharing across the ocean
This month, GOOD Magazine sent out their GOOD Guide to education. In it, one of the first ideas that they discuss is the way that some schools are using technology to reach across continents. Using Skype, a classroom of 3rd graders at Godfrey Elementary in Wyoming, Michigan was able to collaborate with a group of students in Utah on a sculpture project. A group of 6th graders in the same school was able to talk with a soldier stationed in Bahrain and learn about the geography and culture of the Middle East. What if we were able to take this idea and broaden it a bit? Building on the old-school idea of "pen pals," what if a classroom in India was able to learn collaboratively over Skype with a classroom in the US or Europe?
The Challenge Brief
This idea would require some technological and structural components; for example, a camera and computer with Internet access, and actual structured classrooms.
