How might we better connect food production and consumption?
Concept
Fire-stick Food Group
Businesses partnering with the indigenous cultures of Australia to create a sustainable food system. Lets get through the value chain together! Australia's food industry is the largest manufacturing sector in the nation. However as natural resources deplete (ie. water) and as imports increase, jobs are at stake, businesses (grocery stores and food manufacturers) are at stake, and local communities are at stake. My proposal is to have grocery stores and food manufacturers partner with indigenous communities in order to bring a different perspective into the food industry. This network of partnerships would be called the Fire-stick Food Group. The idea would be to have grocery stores and food manufacturers bring in indigenous communities to offer their stories and insight on every aspect of their value chains. This might not be your traditional business consultant, however indigenous communities have been modifying their farming practices for centuries to accommodate to a dynamic environment and to leverage resources, so would have valuable insight to offer to large businesses.
To build off of Yen's idea, the Indigenous and Multicultural Recipe Book would then be a conglomeration of the Fire-stick Food Group members. These members would contribute and pay for the publishing of this recipe book, bridging various communities together while sharing their stories through their wonderful recipes.
