Local Food Challenge Inspires Local Action
July 04, 2011, 11:17PM
OpenIDEATOR, Paul Keys, tells us about how the Local Food Challenge inspired action in his life – to take on a role on his local farmers' market committee.
"OpenIDEO transformed me from a casual observer to an active, engaged participant in my local Farmers' Market and the wider community that it breathes life into. I had enjoyed the buzz around the market here in Timaru, South Island, New Zealand – and wanted in a small way to spread the message. Despite having no expertise around developing ideas into actions, the way OpenIDEO is constructed to build inspirations forward into collaborative discussions has carried me along to where I am now a member of the market committee – listening to the producers and consumers and taking action!"
"Even though I am already involved locally through my role as a a medical General Practitioner – now I'm helping out in my community in a new way – and seeing how my community pays it back through embracing my family and showing that we belong. In a couple of months, my local, offline collaboration map would have new branches extending to environmental groups, charity organisations, local authorites... all doors opening with ease, aided by the OpenIDEO community being so willing with their time and ideas."
