"Disloyalty" program to support local small businesses

Encourage exploration of local small businesses through a partnership program, such as coffee rosters and cafes. Benefits include: 1) increased consumer awareness of the different businesses, and 2) economic benefit by supporting local companies.
In San Francisco, coffee is its own religion. With multiple local coffee rosters sprouting around the city, each promoting it's own sustainable practices, there's intense competition between these local businesses.

Earlier this year, a "disloyalty" program encouraged consumers to try out coffee from the different roasters. Rather than singularly promoting only one coffee company, the program partnered with eight different coffee shops around San Francisco.

This is a creative example to build community by promoting local businesses, and could probably be scaled to small businesses beyond coffee.

True!! there are lot of small scale industries working around the world, which is not know to many of us, like ways craft industry is one of them, every country, every state has various vibrant styles of art and craft, craftsmen are so skilled n creative. But they dont enjoy dat respect, or popularity..

Thank you Ankita for you comment! This could be an interesting idea to engage with local artisans - it could be an "analog" local-version of Etsy (http://www.etsy.com/) and World of Good (http://worldofgood.ebay.com/home).

I like the "community-building" flavor of this idea :)

Accomplishing success by way of large profit margins is not immoral. But, when one loses empathy towards the needs of the community or develops reluctance in offering a contribution to a communal good, there lays the transgression of empty gain.

Way to foster an idea that is an appeal to improve competition, to strengthen society, to redistribute opportunity, and to encourage prosperity!!

Thank you Christine for your comment. I think this could be a model that could potentially be applied to other industries too in order to promote local businesses.
