A Design Center Taps Into The Youth

A two-week architecture/design camp in Jackson, MS that allows youth to re-imagine their declining city by teaching them about architecture, showing them the assets they already have and designing beyond what they currently see in their city.
A two-week camp that enabled 30 youth in Jackson, MS to learn about architecture while also re-imagining what their city could look like in the future. Similar to other youth oriented projects (StudioH) that are led by the design community but with a shorter time span to engage.

Also notable in this inspiration is the lead that the local design center takes in assisting the youth in imagining themselves as architects/designers: http://caadjcdc.wordpress.com

I will never forget the TED talk on Studio H, I think these types of efforts are AMAZING and where more cities/towns should focus. Thanks for sharing!

Many related inspirations about re-imagining the city... I like these ones :-) Another one that you might know already is the Public Workshop http://publicworkshop.us/ by Alex Gilliam. Thanks for sharing Kara :-)

I am familiar with Public Workshop and love what they are doing, Adriana. Great addition. We're trying to engage similar ideas here in Vancouver with a design studio for kids: www.emilycarrdesignstudio.com
