A "greenhouse for little businesses"

Part event space and commercial kitchen the Logan Square Kitchen is both a neighborhood gathering space and a support infrastructure for local food entrepreneurs, giving them the opportunity to develop and grow.
"Logan Square Kitchen offers a beautiful private event space that supports a commercial kitchen available to small food businesses.

Known as a "shared kitchen," LSK gives food entrepreneurs access to a commercial kitchen on an hourly basis--long before they could afford it. As a greenhouse for little businesses, we give culinary talent a place to develop.

Our dining room is available for small weddings, corporate meetings, cocktail or cooking parties. Hosting an event here supports our local food economy and does it sustainably. We are the only LEED Gold private event space in Chicago, certified by US Green Building Council.

LSK presents public events that celebrate our local food community, showcasing chefs and food artisans. It's a vessel for education about sustainability, our food system, green buildings, just to name a few.

Logan Square Kitchen has been a labor of love for many wonderful people. Three years in the making, its designers and builders have transformed a vacant foreclosure into an inviting and vibrant gathering place. In May 2010, we received LEED Gold certification from the US Green Building Council, the second highest rating for a green construction project."

Nice one. Jenny. Here's a quick tip: we're starting to see a couple of related inspirations around food and you might want to connect them to your post using the Build Upon feature. This helps us all join the dots between related posts and will show up on your Collaboration Map for this post. Plus you'll get more DQ points!. Hit the Update button on the right of your post, then scroll down to Build Upon. Search terms like 'food' and drag anything relevant over to your Build Upon field. Keep up the great work!

Great inspiration Jenny. I wanted to learn more so I found the link to LSK http://logansquarekitchen.com/ (in case anyone's curious to read more like I was).

I've mentioned before on OpenIDEO that my husband is a food entrepreneur and he's found these kinds of community kitchens invaluable in his early growth. Thanks for sharing a great example.
