Biodivers-city
Cultivating micro-islands/cracks for new inhabitants to invade the city. Gardening the street, the bus shelter, planting the facades, making wild our balconies, roofs and gardens. The city will become attractive to live, to stay and to experience.PLANTING
Planting becomes the action of everyone. Each individual can disseminate the locally distributed seeds (native crops in adequacy with the local context). This small action of planting is a small step for making citizens aware of their ability to act for their environment. Moreover, this action of planting is a regard to the soil and to what feeds us as people. Inviting people to 'plant' is making them more conscious.
Schools will also participate to this momentum, able to use this movement for education with children. Associations and municipality services will join and might coordinate efforts around the public space.
While for private spots like backyards gardens, roofs, balconies, the person not wanting to plant or not knowing about planting can invite another person interested to plant and maintain his space.
MAINTAINING
Maintaining is the second action. The social networks develop between people having soils or spaces and people wanted to plant and maintain them. The eventual profit is shared between both parties. Moreover, small jobs and businesses will appear to coordinate these efforts, maintaining and protecting natural micro-spaces in private domain.
For the public domain, as the responsibility of everyone is challenged, the municipality services, small businesses and infrastructures management companies can merge and sit at the same table to evaluate, discuss and innovate together.
Besides, the presence and the evolution of urban nature will attract scientists to observe it. The research about the biodiversity improvement will be able to become an economy in itself and recognized by other cities for their own development.
LIVING
The image is consequently the last point. Biodiversity makes the city more active, more attractive and thus more interesting to live. We can expect people wanting a good living environment to invest and inhabit the city again. Their children will live in this secure and healthy environment as well as them appreciating the low stress level and the quality of life. Bringing biodiversity restores the urban environment. Supporting bio-diversity is also supporting a better balance between urbanity, people and nature.
The nature reflects in this sense our behaviors and the health of our cities… The presence of nature makes the city recovering vibrancy, people-friendliness and enhances economy to inhabit again the city.
