Bringing the community together at Washington DC's Eastern Market

Washington DC's Eastern Market brings together local members of the community as well as tourists visiting the DC area to engage one another as buyers and sellers and ensure that the vibrant DC community remains strong.
Washington DC's Eastern Market, save for a 2-year period when it was closed due to fire damage, has operated continuously since 1873. It serves as an indoor and outdoor, year-round market that allows merchants to sell food, drinks, and all other manner of items. Outdoors it hosts an antique market as well as fresh produce vendors as seasonably appropriate. It also holds events, such as holiday-themed film screenings, dances, and more in its large indoor space. It's a gathering place for the community as well as an opportunity for tourists to see a side of the city they might not otherwise have had a chance to. It encourages citizens to spend their dollars on merchants that they can see, interact, and become friends with. It builds a vibrant community while at the same time preserving a historic tradition in the city of Washington, DC.

Cheers for the Inspiration, Jon! Here's a quick tip: we're starting to see a number of related inspirations around markets and you might want to connect more of them to your post using the Build Upon feature. This helps us all join the dots between related posts and will show up on your Collaboration Map for this post. Plus you'll get more DQ points!. Hit the Update button on the right of your post, then scroll down to Build Upon. Search terms like 'market' and drag anything relevant over to your Build Upon field. Keep up the great work!
