Building together!

Have you seen those television shows were a whole house is rebuild in just a few days? This idea is just that, but on a larger scale and with more people!
Each street of a city has different areas that can be improved, moreover each street houses different people that have different expectations.

The people of a street are asked what they would like to see improved in their street. The amount of green, amount of parking places or places for children to play are examples of things that people might come up with.

These are collected and discussed during a street-feast and voted on.

Together with a group of builders the people of this street start rebuilding the street to their liking. Working together on improving the street helps to:

-Get to know your neighbors
-Helps you gain respect from your neighbors
-Gives you the power of choice
-improves the overall look of the street
-improves the services of the street(play areas or sitting areas)
-increases house prices
-makes people want to move here

The minus is that it costs money! Which could be made by making the whole thing a television show. This also has several positive points:

-money
-people from all over the world see how the city is growing
-television is a good tool to motivate people to do stuff they would normally not do!

Awesome, expand from "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extreme_Makeover:_Home_Edition ) to "Extreme Makeover: Community Edition"!

Get to know your neighbors.. I am on the same wavelength. I like what you have written here.

How can we get people together if that sense of community has been lost?

I was thinking that making a television show about it would help for this because people tend to behave different and might get that sense of community back by rebuilding their block.

and actually could be the title:"building blocks" for the show

Also activities such as a street party or activity could help rebuilding a broken community.

But those are just two thoughts I have, no idea if it would work.
