CAFÉ CHAVALOS: Overcoming the Streets

A story of how everyone has the chance to to overcome their darkest days, when given the chance.

Cafe Chavalos is the inspiring story of a cafe/restaurant in Granada, Nicaragua who challenged a group of troubled kids (known as chavalos in Nicaraguan Spanish) to turn their lives around and be part of a different kind of 'gang'. They agreed to exchange their drug habits for cooking classes, and with the financial backing of Building New Hope, a non-profit dedicated to community development in Central America, they opened a small cafe to serve the public. This cafe turned into not only a kind of rehab, but a go-to place for kids with the same kind of troubles, creating an support group for everyone involved, binding these Chavalos into a fraternity stronger then anyone ever expected.
