Chairsharing

A public service of Internet-connected movable chairs brings new life to the historic centre of the city of Modena, Italy.
In recent years, the area between the Porta San Francesco and Porta Saragozza in the historic centre of Modena has undergone a sharp decline in the intensity of its social life and economic activity.

Chairsharing is a public service that offers people the free use of movable chairs that provide Internet connection. They are equipped with a wheel and, since they weigh very little, they can easily be moved to any point in the neighbourhood.

My first reaction was concern that wifi would keep people isolated, but the idea and its sustainability really started growing on me. I like the way that this Chairsharing rental program aptly describes it as "space-making": www.snarkive.eu/tag/chairsharing/

Lovely idea, thanks for sharing Charlotte! I also imagine these chairs being used for reading a book outside ( something I personally love to do! ) maybe the chair could also include some arm supports and another movable one to place your book as a break to surfing on the internet on ure phone or laptop!

The chairs could also be made from old furniture that has been thrown away, but still worth re-cycling! Maybe local artisans/furniture manufacturers could be paid by the local government to re-store the old chairs into beautiful movable chairs!

So simple and funny idea!
Thanks.

Very nice! I like the idea that the chairs can be moved around and maybe brought together.

I also find interesting the idea of using wifi (internet being sometimes accused of creating distance) to encourage people to be out in the street, and potentially meet.
thanks for sharing!
