City Sprouts - Urban Gardening in Cambridge Schools
CitySprouts is a Cambridge non-profit initiative which develops and maintains school gardens and accompanying curricula and extra-curricular activities, in collaboration with local public schools. I love all of the urban gardening insights that have been posted so far. This is a similar inspiration that I found in Cambridge, Massachusetts focused on children at public schools and their families and communities. The CitySprouts program began in 2000 and works with 12 local, public schools to develop school gardens. Its team works with teachers to build lesson plans around the garden, incorporating math and science outside of the traditional classroom setting. CitySprouts also runs summer programs for children to learn how to grow and harvest food in urban gardens and connects families with healthy, locally-sourced food in collaboration with the Massachusetts FoodCorps Initiative.
