Connect Community with Their Pocket Parks

The pocket parks project in Little Village is about creating beautiful and inspiring community spaces in a densely urban neighborhood in Chicago.
The pocket parks project in Little Village is about creating beautiful and inspiring community spaces in a densely urban neighborhood in Chicago. The students from Archeworks project team led charettes in the community to better understand how they currently felt about their spaces and parks and why it was important to their community. They also planned clean-up session of the pocket parks with the community to engage in the space.

Bridge the gap for people and the value of open spaces and allow opportunities for them to invest time and energy in beautifying their neighborhood spaces. This can give people a sense of ownership and interest to maintain the space into the future.

Green spaces especially in unique, unexpected places create the most interesting urban intersections I think. This is a good idea, you my have seen this, but Nicholas de Monchaux has a video that gives a look at creating pocket parks at a city scale by identifying remnant parcels. http://vimeo.com/8080630 . He finds that most times the remnant parcels end up being in urban spaces with the most need environmentally and socially and would have an outstanding impact.
