D.I.R.T - Dump It Right There
Landscape architect, Julie Bargmann, started DIRT as a way of revitalizing urban landscapes: http://www.dirtstudio.com/ Julie Bargmann's D.I.R.T studio has worked on many industrial revitalization projects like the Ford River Rouge Plant (pictured) in Dearborn, MI, The Highline in New York City, and Staten Island's North Shore. D.I.R.T studio gathers architects, historians, scientists, and designers to re-imagine environments in industrial ruin.I first heard about Bargmann in Julie Burstein's "Spark", and was inspired by her attitude to not "greenify" these industrial spaces by adding grass and trees, but to focus on transforming the space in an eco friendly way, preserving their history in the process. Here's a good article on Bargmann's work: http://pruned.blogspot.com/2008/02/treating-acid-mine-drainage-in.html
