Employee Owned Businesses in Emilia Romagna

Cooperatives, including community and employee-owned enterprises, provide increased economic democracy and distributed profits. Emilia Romagna has used the structure to build multinational companies that make it one Italy's most prosperous regions
Emilia Romagna is Italy's most prosperous region with brands like Ferarri, Ducati, and Parmigiano-Reggiano. The region has 400,000 enterprise - one for every 10 people in the region. Over 8,000 cooperative firms account for 40% of the regions GDP and its egalitarian distribution of wealth.

At the basis of this highly successful region are regulations providing favorable terms to community and employee owned businesses that work around shared assets (the traditional fattoria).

Employees who own the business don't need a union. Could removing the need to negotiate labor contracts with a union and instead negotiate purchase contracts with employee-owned suppliers promote investment?

What if labor was capital?

And, if you integrated a job training model for youth or marginalized people into this labor--> capital idea... ==> double your community assets! Caching!

Love it - with the idea of labor as capital, you can rest easy knowing that your employee-owners have incentives aligned with what is profitable for the firm. You also see a level of attention to detail that will be unparalleled by companies who simply pay manual laborers hourly
