Heritage Walks: Connecting through Stories and Culture

A city has lots of stories to share. Some get passed on and some are forgotten. Heritage walks aim to tell such stories about people, monuments, events, architechture. They change the way you look at the city. Its about reconnection n discovery.

Few heritage walks happening in India are - Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bangalore.  Links to few walk programs in India.

love it. I know that Boston also has "freedom trail" which go through cultual and historical locations in the city, though Boston only has a small amount of history.

I *love* the Ahmedabad Heritage walk and there's a great night walk they do there now as well. And to build upon your great inspiration – folks might also like to think about how technology might be leveraged to help people engage with local heritage. Here's an example from London: http://www.creativereview.co.uk/cr-blog/2010/may/streetmuseum-app

I love that app - it's a great way to get young people involved with local heritage. My Dad is a member of our neighbourhood's "Historical Society" & in his late 40's, he's the youngest member! I think the more you know about a place, the more you will care about it....

Not that I'm saying that 'older' people can't use apps either, I just feel like it would appeal more to a younger crowd. Or maybe not. Hmmmmm. Either way, it's a great way to get people engaged.

This is great! I remember I thoroughly enjoyed exploring SF's Chinatown and my university through these walks - knowing where they come from definitely ties you closer to a place.
