Hometown Pride
A vibrant city is one in which the people have pride in where they are from. Music, movies, and clothing that promote one's hometown create an intense pride in the city and insure vibrancy in the community.
A handmade t-shirt press and the will to promote your hometown is all it takes to show a city's vibrancy. Art students Jacob Streilein and Chris Alton of Riverside High School in Durham, NC designed and printed t-shirts sporting the town's nickname, the Bull City. The shirts, printed in Chris's kitchen, were a huge hit among the Durham youth, and their popularity spread rapidly. A few dozen shirt orders turned to hundreds, and eventually over a thousand shirts had been printed and sold.
When I walk around and see someone wearing that homemade shirt representing the Bull City, I know that the town has true vibrancy - primarily because it is not afraid to show it.
