Lift 11 - Urban Installations Festival
The LIFT11 urban installations festival takes place in Tallin, Estonia, featuring a number of objects of art, architecture, landscape architecture or design temporarily set up in the city space, as well as an open competition. For more information: http://lift11.ee/Sander, who is from Estonia, shared this inspiration from Tallin, around a festival celebrating temporary installations in the city, including art pieces, community gardens, and all sorts of very fun things like:
- An Audio Tour in the city (cf. video above), kind of like those you find in museums. You follow a path, and whenever you see a number on the ground, you can listen to the explanation in your headphones.
- Impromptu buildings around Soodevahe Village, an illegal seasonal shanty town and agricultural area next to the airport, inviting people to come and discover this unknown area of Tallinn.
- An installation to commemorate history: Girl in the Sewer, in reference to a poem from the Soviet Era where the Writers’ House in Harju Street was a place that beamed out literature. Sadly, that aura has mostly vanished to date just as it has vanished from some other places in Tallinn that used to be famous for their special cultural atmosphere back in the day.
- And many more...

This inspiration was brought up during an OpenSTORM in Paris at ME310, a Design Innovation course at Ecole des Ponts ParisTech. The team included Sander (from Estonia), Coralie and Adrien (from France), Takuya and Kazuhiro (from Japan) and Sarah (from Morocco).
