Mixed-Use Redevelopments Attract New Startups and Help New Haven Transform
A 60-acre complex of vacant firearms factories is redeveloped for bioscience companies and is transforming a once-dangerous neighborhood into a place for living, work, and play.In the last decade New Haven launched the revitalization of the former Winchester Rifle factory, converting a dilapidated and abandoned space into a redevelopment suitable for 21st century business. According to the Hartford Courant, "After a decades-long slow start, the 60-acre complex of vacant firearms factories that the state, city and Yale University have been redeveloping is roaring to life under a broadened, mixed-use strategy that envisions general office, retail and housing uses."
The mix of revitalized buildings includes CTech, a startup incubator aimed at fostering locally-based early and growth-stage companies. CTech offers preferential rates and flexible leases on office space to startups, as well as provides guidance from lawyers and venture capitalists.
