One millionth tower - Interactive Documentary

Filmmakers Katerina Cizek and Mike Robbins point out that millions of people live in crumbling high rises with poor quality of public space. They provide an opportunity for residents to redesign their towers.
The biggest message to take away from this excellent project is that the changes needed to make a vibrant city are so slight: a community garden, a bike network, some awnings, a coat of paint -- local, small, and community-relevant.

I watched the video and it seemed to me an interesting point that the highrises have been called 'failed social experiments of the modernist era'. How much is Detroit failing/falling apart because it's entire nature is still centered around bygone eras. The people have changed, the needs have grown, but the structures, paths, and laws are stuck inside older philosophies and agendas, inflexible and thus creating a city easier to abandon than connect with.

In a sense, the question could be, "How can modernist structures, though inflexible, adopted as useful prefabrications for a more postmodernist vision of shifting, quilted, community living?"
