Parklets in San Francisco
Parkets are small community spaces cut out between sidewalks and the street. I live in San Francisco so I can only speak to a parklet's effectiveness in a denser area, but it's interesting to cut away at common spaces to create social, open, and even business spaces. Often they are created in partnership with businesses for outdoor seating, but maybe they could provide ideas for how to reuse unique space, or even how to allow people to gather—safely—outdoors in urban environments to enjoy their city. And even though the parklets in SF are connected to businesses, they seem to create positive connections to the city that are actually separate from the business.cite: http://sfpavementtoparks.sfplanning.org/
