•MillionTreesNYC aims to engage residents, businesses and organizations to plant trees in their own backyard. This means planting on the streets they live and work on or at their favorite parks.
•Trees contribute to a healthy environment for the city’s citizens, such as reducing asthma rates and cooling roads during hot summers. Trees also beautify streets, revitalizing neighborhoods, making them more desirable to visit and live.
•At this point there have been over 500,000 trees planted throughout the five boroughs. Neighbors, volunteers, park stewards and businesses have donated or planted these trees. Though the number of trees planted thus far have been successful, the challenge still lies with maintaining and caring for the trees. This is where there’s a constant call to action to residents and their friends to help build a sustainable environment.
