Soup on the High Line
A couple of weeks ago, the High Line in New York conducted a social soup experiment. A couple of weeks ago, the High Line in New York conducted a social soup experiment. They gathered New Yorkers around a long table, and charged $5 for bread, an apple, and a bowl of bean & farro soup.“Like the High Line, the table is a place to gather together. We wanted to bring together neighbors and visitors, friends and newcomers, to share a feast and celebrate fall on the High Line," says Melina Shannon-DiPietro, director of High Line Food and Revenue Programs at Friends of the High Line. "A hearty bowl of soup, served family style, with the ingredients sourced from New York farms – this meal was a reminder that the best meals can be affordable, nourishing, and sustainable.”
This was a very simple solution that gathers strangers together in a new way. Clearly food has a way of attracting people to a place and inspiring them to interact with each other.
