Supporting local artists and help them to maximize their work.

There is a lot of great creative hidden in every city with the potential and the will to make it better, but some times they lack the right means to it.
This mural is for sure one of the most beautiful peace of art I have ever seen, and indeed it gives some spirit to the city. Some local grafitti artists from Motreal could take their work further than the usual (read the short interview at the bottom of the post to understand how they manage to do it).

Taking this case as an example, what think that could be done is to find talented local people, and help them to expand their arms helping them to make viable to put their work in large scale to revitalize spaces.

Another example, here in Brazil we have a federal law made to help spreading culture that allow companies to finance every kind of cultural movement (publishing books, sponsoring art galleries, events, tv programs and others) with the money that should be given to the goverment as income taxes.

Using this two cases to ilustrate a scenario. I believe that local goverments, local companies and local communities could join forces to discuss means to make things like this mural happen more often. I guess everybody would appreciate that.

Great global insights, André! You inspired me to search for more info on Brazil's great government initiative and I came across this interesting article from the Guardian: http://www.guardian.co.uk/inside-brazil/young-and-vibrant (which even has "vibrant" in the title! ;^) ... "Companies can get back up to 100% of their cultural investments in tax rebates. As a result, banks and telecoms companies have emerged as big cultural sponsors."

Nice article. it gave me a better idea of how Brazil has been seen abroad. It says lot of names that i know of and had no ideia that was doing so much.

About the companies using the sponsrships to promote their brands is indeed a problem, the Lei Rouanet (Rouanet's law) is still young and its developing. One good thing I see in this situation is that Brazil is a country that suffers too much with political corruption, and in this case we can feel that the money is going to where it should. We see results.
