Talent Factory - a young artists hub in Porto

A fair/sale of art work at the Talent Factory

In my home city of Porto in Portugal, the downtown area and the oldest part of the city (classified as Urban Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO) has for some years been facing social as well as urban planning issues. Many beautiful buildings are old, and have been left abandoned, degrading some famous historic locations . The majority of the downtown area has seen the decline in young people wanting to live and work there.

Two years ago the 'Youth Foundation' in Portugal set up the 'Talent Factory', based in the old town of Porto like I've mentioned, an area needing a lot of renovation. The Talent Factory is a "project aiming to support maximum integration of Young Artists in working life, providing tools and strategies to support the development of their projects, embracing them through training, creativity, production, and promotion of their work."

It's a mix of an office rental space with education, for young people in the art world.

I've had a chance to visit this place personally, as I knew some people working at the Youth Foundation in Porto. I think it's a great initiative to rebuild the confidence and vibrancy to a beautiful area of Porto.

I must add that the downtown area of Porto is now a huge popular place to go out for drinks and eat before going out to a club. It has become my favorite place to go out, so I really think the local government has made a great job in re-storing pride and prosperity in the city!

I was totally impressed a few years back, when visiting Portugal, at the flourishing of youth creativity, entreprenueurship and intervention. Cheers for sharing, Ana!

Hi Meena, wow you've been to Portugal, and Porto too? Really interesting to hear your feedback.
I think it's growing slowly, and despite a lot of economic problems, and the 'Struggling Youth' -young people who are unemployed and quite upset about the high living costs being imposed on us, there is still interesting projects going on involving these young creative minds!
