The Idea Village - It's ON in NOLA through Entrepreneurship

Trust your Crazy Ideas! "Founded in 2000, The Idea Village is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization with a mission to identify, support and retain entrepreneurial talent in New Orleans." It looks to entrepreneurship as the way to rebuild the city.
The Idea Village is an incredible organization involved in rebuilding New Orleans through entrepreneurship.  They run programs that connect entrepreneurs with resources:  Entrepreneur-in-Residences, Corporations, Business School students.  The Idea Village sees entrepreneurship as a way to stem brain drain in their community, attract entrepreneurial talent, and create quality jobs.

I am most familiar with their "Idea Corps" program.  This brings 10 business schools together to New Orleans to partner with a local entrepreneur and work with them on their business over Spring Break.  Not only does this bring talent to work hand-in-hand with New Orleans startups to tackle strategic issues but also it exposes future business leaders to the state of New Orleans, the vibrancy and resilience of the city, and the bubbling entrepreneurial culture in the town.

This program works through its focus, dedication to New Orleans, and commitment to exposing its good work to partners and individuals beyond the city itself.

What a fantastic idea the Idea Village is! Living in the Bay Area, it seems like there's so much support for entrepreneurship, but to see this kind of thing happening in New Orleans is incredibly heartwarming and inspiring. Cheers!

I participated in Idea Corps and had one of the most formative experiences of my graduate school education. This model is nearly directly applicable to other communities, in particular the values and supportive community behind it. Although I have to admit, there's nothing I've experienced like the NOLA optimism and perseverance. How can that kind of attitude be replicated?

Hi Natalie,

Great to see another Idea Corps veteran here. Excellent question.

How did that attitude get created in the first place? Is it rooted in the history and culture? What is the history and culture in other communities that can be leveraged for positive change?

Hi IV! Glad to see you on here. Not sure who posted this, but I also posted about our work while I was at the Village. Remind Tim about "entrepreneurial infrastructure." Let's get our ideas connected somehow...
