The Neighbourhoodie Project

The Neighbourhoodies was run as a collaborative research and student project in spring 2010 at London College of Fashion, Centre for Sustainable Fashion. This was designed and delivered by Dr Otto von Busch and MA students participated
"The Neighbourhoodies are an attempt to visualize belonging and questions of habitus in contemporary street wear cultures. Participants are invited to reflect their neighbourhood through an image that is printed onto fabric and made into a special hoodie - a neighbourhoodie."

The participants were invited to capture images which reflected their local community. These were digitally printed onto garments (hoodie templated) and each participant was styled and modelled their hoodie in their local neighbourhood.

The catalogue and showcase presented the finished outcomes to the public.

I think projects like this could be en engaging way for youth's to work together. This can be connected to larger projects - but as a medium for conversation and coming together fashion could be a good medium?

I had a shirt with the NYC subway map on it & it was fun to point at once I got home "my hostel was here (points to stomach), I ate a good cupcake here (points to shoulder)..." I can see the same thing happening with the neighbourhoodie!
