The public space has as a meeting point between people where to develop commune activities.
Two reflexions after a nice walk in my neighborhood in Bilbao about public space and positive attitude.1) The public space has a
key role as a meeting point between people where to develop commune
activities. You can organize it in different ways corresponding to the
profile of the persons you are focussing on. In Bilbao there are parks
for people with dogs, readers, children and their parents, there are
streets with bars where people meet, benches where youngsters of
different nationalities converse, there are spaces where the elderly
can exercise, information points, spaces for recreation, and so on.
Communication creates connexion, network and solidarity. It's more important what unites than what separates us.
There
is still a lot to do in terms of the use and interpretation of the
public space for covering the needs of the users. It is very interesting
starting to rethink the public space from the point of view of the
users and designing what is missing. Step by step we are making
advances. So we are on a good way!
2) My
neighborhood as many others is an intercultural one. You can find
chinese, moroccan, african, latin american, basque, portuguese and many
other shops. But this cultural richness one only can experience
discovering the commerces and the habitants, through conversations
having together.
Little is written about the intercultural
exchange and richness of the neighborhood when treated in the media
which is labeling and classifying it in a negative and pessimistic way,
talking about drug abuse, robberies and fistfights.
In
this neighborhood like in others one thing we share and doesn't have a
price are the words. Talking and listening to each other changes our
manners to interact with each other. With this positive approach one can
contaminate the habitants and for the better their happiness.
