The Trey McIntyre Project
The Trey McIntyre Project brings professional dance and vitality to Boise, Idaho. The dance company strives to be an active part of the community, holding some performances in unusual locations.
Watch the first video to see the Mayor of Boise, business owners and others talking about how this dance troupe has enhanced the local economy.
Another neat thing is how a dancer talks about how cool it was to be recognized on the street and be a bit of a "rock star." There are advantages and additional personal fulfillment that come in not locating in the usual national cultural centers.
I also like how they work to tie in with the areas Basque community and heritage.
The second video shows how the troupe works in hospitals.
Summary of connections to builds: What we see here is an arts organization taking advantage of the relatively cheaper cost of working out of Boise, Idaho (along with less competition for funding) and creating a culture of fun/celebration that connects with the area's heritage.
