Transition Towns
A network connecting communities around the world who are trying to explore creative solutions to Low Carbon Life and each contributing to making their ‘patch of the planet a lovelier place to be’ in the processwww.transitionnetwork.org connects communities around the world who are concerned about peak oil. There are now over 300 local chapters in over 14 countries.
The strength of such networks is the possibility of sharing of knowledge and ideas regarding marketing, fundraising, community activities, conflict resolution, lobbying etc, learning from each other’s experiences and pooling resources.
Having a particular agenda, in this instance the desire to ‘work
together to reduce oil dependency’, also focuses the activity, but the repercussions
are much wider reaching and the chapters work on projects around transport, housing, waste, art and education that benefit the whole community.
Instead of focusing on doom and gloom, the intention is to
positive explore models for living a Low Carbon Life and in the process each Transition
Town makes their ‘patch of the planet a lovelier place to be’ for everyone.
