Use Arts To Transform and Create Value

The arts and culture have shown to transform people and communities. Vacant lots and empty store fronts can be converted into cultural enterprise hot spots - combining education and enterprise, entertainment and training.
There are successful programs all over America and the globe where arts and education combine with micro-enterprise and community development to transform lives, build community and generate wealth,

I've also attached a description of the Peoples Housing Community Arts Program that I organized from 1993 through 1995 in North Rogers Park, Chicago.

These programs provide ample templates for significant economic development and transformation via arts and cultural enterprise.

Using vacant space is such a great idea. In New Haven, the Economic Development Corporation used empty storefronts to allow local artists to sell their crafts It really helps jump-start what is exciting about cities - the mixing of a diverse group of people.

Great examples from a variety of American settings, Thomas. We also liked this example of using vacant space in Detroit: http://www.openideo.com/open/vibrant-cities/inspiration/detroit-the-green-city-documentary/
