Disabled Residents Educating Others on Voting Rights
In Wisconsin, a community works together to share resources on how to help people with disabilities get ready to vote come election day. Lorraine Lee describes her frustration, especially after moving to a home who didn't have enough staff or the time to help people with disabilities get out and vote. She's very passionate to help others obtain information and the right to vote. New laws in Wisconsin require people to obtain a state ID to be able to vote, which will create another barrier for people already challenged.View her video here.
Through community outreach activities, a core group of advocates from Adaptive Community Approach Program are engaged in a voter accessibility project. The group is also working with a University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee film student to prepare an educational video on accessible voting so it can reach a wider audience.
How can we learn from others to make sure communities are prepared to help those with disabilities find out local resources as well as provide ways to help understaffed homes get people out to vote?
