What's it like to be blind?

"Tommy Edison has been blind since birth and [is] now producing videos online that reveal a glimpse into his life and the funny challenges that he faces daily. " -from his website. Entertaining & insightful. Well worth the ~2 minutes/video.
The video excerpts above include:

Day In The Life
  1. Using ATM
  2. Using Money
  3. Crossing the Street
  4. Cooking
  5. Using New DVD Player
  6. Unboxing DVD Player
  7. Unboxing Toolkit

On Sighted People
  1. When Sighted People Forget
  2. Sh*t Sighted People Say to Blind People

Tommy's also living his dream of reviewing movies. As he puts it: ā€œI watch movies and pay attention to them in a different way than sighted people do. I’m not distracted by all the beautiful shots and attractive people. I watch a movie for the writing and acting.ā€ In addition, he's been an on-air Radio Personality for >20 years.

"one time I was at an atm and this woman was being as loud as she could be..."
Great insight, so valuable, really excellent as to how we can better design for the blind using other senses in well curated environment.

thank you for the inspiration!, and it opens up the thought of all people with different disabilities and how theirs choices and reviews can be more insightful than people that are not disabled. Because they are not "distracted" by what we all see, hear and assume. They could very likely pick up on points during elections we unknowingly pass by.

I was thinking that the voting experience would be more accesible to everyone if they could have a similar experience as using an ATM. Now I understand, the ATM is not so great either. Thank you for sharing!

Well, at least this ATM had some issues. Hopefully there are other ATMs that are more accessibly designed ;)

As I'm reading this inspiration about SMS voting, I'm wondering how accessible it would be for blind people: http://www.openideo.com/open/voting/inspiration/sms-voting-/

Thanks Vincent for sharing. This is indeed important to remember that what seems like an accessible experience might not be for all.
