The Challenge

What global challenge do you think innovation leaders should work to solve right now?
Inspiration
What’s the most innovative thing going on where you live?
Before we start writing the agenda, we’d
like to build a library of insights and inspirations, capturing the most
interesting things happening globally. Post videos, images and stories to inspire
your fellow OpenIDEO members with what’s happening in your world, either
locally or at the national level. Remember to think
broadly – this is a big topic and the community can use all the inspiration we
can gather to help inform the next phase: Agenda Concepts.

One of the greatest challenges facing the world today is violence due to gangs, drug trafficking, terrorist organizations, mafias and such. With the proliferation of such crimes and forms of violence, we are beginning to believe that it is normal to be surrounded by shootings, kidnappings, home robberies, etc.
A big part in the quelling of such violence is having a justice system that guarantees transparency and the processing of criminals swiftly and efficiently. The sense of justice is essentially non-existent in most developing countries where people do not press charges towards criminals fearing retaliation and being victims of corruption. This violence costs millions of dollars to economies and can become an important reason for people to consider migrating from their countries.
There must be greater collaboration between countries and the input of great minds; legal and from the innovation community, to use technology and collective thought in achieving real solutions.

We need to find a way to decrease personal, corporate, and governmental leveraged debt within the next five to seven years in most developed countries (especially the U.S). We also need to find ways to decrease our economic reliance on china's ability to become a consumerist economy, that may happen but it wont be any time soon.
