Ana Cecilia Santos

"No Pain, No Gain. "

Born & raised in the beautiful sea-side city of Porto, Portugal. Currently I'm a Service Design intern at Made by Many in London, as part of my last few months as a Digital Media student of Hyper Island.

I discovered OpenIDEO back in August 2010 during our introduction weeks at Hyper Island, in a workshop where we were given the Challenge of 'Raising kids awareness of the benefits of fresh food', my 1st challenge on this platform. Since then I became really absorbed by IDEO's ethos and began accompanying their work, representatives and publications quite closely.

My passion revolves around working with individuals that use design and real insights to innovate businesses, organizations and communities for the good of people. I want to contribute with making the world a better place. Bruce Mau's 'Incomplete Manifesto for Growth' is a big inspiration to me.

Apply to Y Combinator without an Idea

Y Combinator has yesterday launched a new funding experiment, with NO ideas: "Almost every smart person has a good idea in them. They just don't know it. And we now have lots of practice helping founders see the startup ideas they already have."

Spreading local patriotism through special Postage Stamps Competitions

Although sending physical mail is becoming less and less common, it is still widely used, especially in less developed areas. Why not turn it into something fun with a competition of stamp designs showing local heritage or gastronomy, ?

Hello. are you speaking swedish? :)

Related to your comment on seeing things in the cities: I think that artists and creative people do tend to notice funny and interesting little things before general persons stumble upon them. Perhaps you are too an artist of some kind?
I am painter, but have a passion for funny installations or art in public places (very much inspired by colourful graffiti and www.improveverywhere.com that is just meant to enlighten and bring smiles to people passing by )

Are you going back to Portugal after you take your final exams? or staying, living in stockholm permanently?
I bet you have plenty of friends at Hyper Island to brainstorm together with, but I could definitely need some intelligent friends (like you) to do real-life brain-jams and ideating with.

I am now temporarily living a little bit north of Uppsala, but are very interested in experiencing and living in Portugal, would love to visit, especially now when the scandinavian darkness and winter approaches fast, like cotton dipped in grey oil and black ink. ;) haha

take care, keep being creative!

Hi Johan!
Thanks for your lovely comment. I believe the more brains we have to brainstorm together, the better, so maybe one day many of us from this platform may meet in person to solve one of these challenges.
I also really like the work Improv Everywhere do, it's very inspiring and they really know their stuff!

I am not in Stockholm any more, but you should definitely head to Portugal for a winter escape from Sweden, I recommend that!

Take care Johan.
