Anne Kjaer Riechert

"Extend your empathy to include the future"

I am 29 years old and originally from Denmark, although I grew up in Norway, in addition I have worked and studied for a longer period of time in Australia, Germany, Cuba and South Africa. At the moment I live in Tokyo, Japan.

I am a 2006 graduate student from the social innovation and change management education “KaosPilot”, which is located in Aarhus, Denmark. Since then I have worked as creative lead and CSR consultant for the Copenhagen-based brand strategy company Stoic, where I amongst others developed and implemented Samsung Electronics award-winning CSR strategy for Scandinavia. I decided to leave my job in November 2009, to travel through United Arabian Emirates, East Africa, Australia and South-East Asia for six months to research social development and innovation on a grass root level.

Since 2006 I have also managed my own humanitarian project called "We Have a Dream" which organize workshops for young people all around the world, where they discuss and draw their dreams for the future. So far we have reached app. 2500 children in 19 countries from Baghdad to Bangladesh, from Canada to Kenya. I exhibit the drawings in public and political places to increase awareness and raise funds for children growing up in disadvantaged areas. The exhibitions have been realized in collaboration with amongst others UNAIDS, the Norwegian Department of Foreign Affairs as well as Amnesty international.

In July 2010 I moved to Japan, as I, as the first Dane, have been entrusted with the prestigious Rotary Peace Fellowship, which is annually given to 50 young leaders, who have proven their humanitarian engagement.

As a part of my field research for my MA in Peace Studies (on the topic of open social innovation), I interned with OpenIDEO in Palo Alto from July-September 2011, and ABSOLUTELY loved it!

Voting from Overseas

Voting when you live overseas is incredibly confusing and difficult! Figuring out how to vote for the 2011 election in Denmark almost turned into a day-job.

We've been so honored to have Anne join us this summer as an OpenIDEO intern. Her passion and rigor have shone throughout her time with us plus she posted a winning concept on our Anniversary Impact Challenge. We especially love how Anne backs up her rocking thoughts with impact-led action. Way to go, Anne!

Wow Anne, your curricula seems so impresive. I'm really interested in "We have a dream". There's a way of seeing your work?. I live in Mexico City and it willbe lovely collaborating sometime in the near future with a project here (I know this is a constant of the world, but here everyday its turning a little bit rougher for kids, and I really want to contribute their dreams, so I thought maybe we could do something here).

To tell you a little bit of what we could make here, I know a couple of guys who are really into social design and innovation, so maybe we could really do something great.

Thanks for your encouragement, Sergio. I would love to talk more with your about my We Have A Dream project and what we could do together in Mexico. We have not had a dream workshop with youth in Mexico, but it would be amazing to do one or more! We just had a workshop in Peru and Venezuela should be joining us soon too. You can download a project presentation I did for Japan here:

File expiration date: permanently July 19, 2011

But if you drop me a line at: anne@kaospilot.dk - then I can send you more information regarding the workshops. I am in the process of building www.we-have-a-dream.org - so there is no content online yet, sorry. Looking forward to continue our conversation! How exciting.

Dear Nour. Great to hear from you and thank you for your nice comments about my proile. I am actually in Palo Alto now interning with OpenIDEO, trying to get a better understanding of how the OpenIDEO community works and what means can be put in place to make the experience even more meaningful for the participants. I am happy to hear that you have joined the site and would be happy to help out in any way I can. I am also curious to hear what your experiences have been like so far. My experience is that it is "learning by doing" and "learning while collaborating" is the best way to get go. So what you are doing is exactly right. I look forward to spin some ideas with your in the future!

Anne,
As i said, i am new in here, i just signed up yesterday night after i watched a hack Fwd event by Nathan Waterhouse and Tom Hulme speaking about design thinking and business design and i instantly told myself ''hah this is it, that is the community i ve been always searching for, lol'' i am a bit happy , although i think me being in Tunisia would cause some kind of a delay in the overall results, bt some how the Internet thing seems to be a nnice solution for that... i am actually a product designer, graduated in 2011, form the High school of design sciences and technologies, In Tunisia ( u must have heard about it so far, haha), i am specialized in intellectual design, which is a parent field of design, actually it is the design scheme that professionals have adopted to design their design methodology. it is the art of thinking logically to come along with meaningful yet simple solutions to everyday's life problems, from businesses to product conceiving! that is me... i tried to apply for a job in Palo Alto as a product designer, but the site didn't want to proceed to next steps (i think it is because i checked the ''i don't have a working permit for the USA'') any way,
Now, i am trying to obtain a masters degree scholarship for japan, i'll try to develop the local industrial mind thinking to a more design thinking developing process integration new technology rather than mechanical solutions, of course in the developing countries.

For now, i ll be working with you guys on open IDEO... which is great,

Amazing background story Nour. It is great to have someone from Tunesia joining us at OpenIDEO!

Let me know if I can be of any help regarding your plan to come to Japan. It is an amazing country, and I can strongly recommend going. Especially now after the earthquake. The Japanese are so grateful that some foreigners have actually stayed. Rotary International has a great shcolarship called 'Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship' which might be useful for you to apply to. But let me know if you wonderful about anything. I'll be back in Tokyo by October. Always happy to help.

Hi Anne, very impressive profile! And I am very curious about your 'We have a dream' project. It's very inspiring, and I would like to learn more about it. Also to see if I can adapt it for a local charity that focuses on bringing pediatric healthcare to children in rural areas. Please share a link, if you have one!
