Tearing down the walls

The Berlin Wall has a great significance in the history of Europe. And when it came down, a lot changed. Still, there are some 'walls' in existence within the EU, that need to be brought down as well.

Well, I'm happy you've found your way here. And I know I'm speaking for many of us :). Anyway, there are some of us who've been around for a while, so feel free to ask if anything is unclear.

Hi Arjan, You are like a OpenIDEO Super hero, nice contribution.

If I can ask you one more thing. What kind of experience would you say you have gained into farming and growing food, working with underprivileged communities, initiating grass root projects and all that.
Just curious!

Thank you for your comment here, Snehal. But... I am not a super hero. Just an enthusiastic user, and big fan of open debate, open collaboration and open innovation.

As for growing food myself, my experience is not too big. A small piece of garden when I was a kid. After that, I rarely had the space to really grow other things than the herbs I use.
Working with underprivileged communities or grass roots projects, well, I don't know if I want to classify it as such. I'm a knowledge worker, who connects dots, and from that experience I try to leverage as much as I can (and can afford) into trying to help the societies or communities I am a part of improve. Whether that is in so-called grass roots projects or trade associations that have an influence on government to improve public transparency and good corporate citizenship in an economy that is still suspect in terms of corruption. I am in the fortunate position that I can do quite many things in quite different fields. But the one thing that I am at the moment quite involved in is bringing health care to children who otherwise do not have access simply due to their location, or cannot afford it. Many of these are also not fully developed mentally.

I have created a Twitter list with people active in the Open IDEO and Open Planet Ideas communities. The list is here: http://3bl.me/hs546g - it's not (probably never) complete, but let me know when I should add you.

BeTheInternationalMatch.org, Arjan's winning concept in the Bone Marrow Donation Challenge, was doubly impressive. Not only was it a fab idea, but it showcased what Arjan does best - connecting the dots! Check out the bone marrow registry map he created and add in your own local bone marrow spots! http://3bl.me/qfmmcd

Thanks. It's nice. I hope it helps to kick cancer's butt. I think it's great that the Haas Center and 100K cheeks now have some concrete things to work on. Also like the realisation phase, in which we can see and help with making it real. Anyway, about winning... there's a little discussion on the user forums: http://3bl.me/c5z5ds

Arjan, I enjoy your great insights, collaborative mindset and sense of humor. I can see why you were selected as top collaborator. ( I still need to update the picture on the "adaptive distribution" concept! )

Dear Arjan, Thank you for your kind comment on my "We Have a Dream" project. I just wrote you a comment in return on my wall - thinking it would appear on yours as well, but it appears it didn´t. (My appologies, I am still new to the ins and outs of OpenIDEO)

Thanks. I saw your response and send you an e-mail. Functionality here is constantly changing, so you never know what comes next :). But, I will take the liberty to add it to the suggested features list in the user forum. They might implement it in the future.

Thanks for your comments and your idea to making a cookbook. I was actually sketching about it a little, on my whiteboard of my living room (which is for idea-collecting and inspiration)
But, I think that I would need help writing and a good contact with book-publisher first, and I have no such contacts. But I will try to work on it.

And I often think I would be helped to have a network of "friends" with different insights from different countries to bounce around loose ideas and concepts (that are not part of a general challenge as OpenIDEO)
Would you be interested in setting up such a "group" or "forum" together with me? discussing small and big ideas, products, methods and services? perhaps in a regular scheduled chat on facebook or similar?
November 09, 2010, 11:55AM
Thanks for all your great ideas and your role-model collaboration on the site! Did you know that you can now share your DQ on your facebook wall and your blog? Share your creative power with your friends and get others involved :) The more the merrier - and more fresh minds to innovate over the ideas on platform!
