I want to include the following example because I find it very successful in promoting members of a community to stop and think of something more ephemeral outside of their everyday lives and interact with their environment: http://candychang.com/be

An energetic, youth-oriented, witty, educational campaign to motivate college students to become bone marrow donors. A national campaign in college campuses where there are awareness booths, "sign up to be a donor" booths and partnership with science and social studies classes to explain the importance of finding a HLA (Human leukocyte antigen) match and the process of transplanting stem cells from one person to another.

Matchpoint

A mobile application to help groups organize bone marrow registry drives. A fast, accessible, one touch to join application that connects users to existing bone marrow drives and gives them the opportunity to organize a drive and invite others to join. People are more likely to participate in a bone marrow drive if there is a face attached to the cause and if there is an organized group event where friends, co-workers and team members can encourage each other.

Carola's winning concept for our Bone Marrow Donation Challenge, Matchpoint, seemed to impress everyone - from the folks at 100K Cheeks to the OpenIDEO community, who was all abuzz over this clever idea. Great work Carola!
