Escape to the City

What if on Sundays the streets of Detroit's CBD are turned into street markets, allowing the businesses of Detroit to setup temporary stalls in the street, and giving people a reason to leave the suburbs, use the city centre to meet each other, and support local businesses. Streets in the CBD would be made car-free on these days to encourage walking and cycling.

Detroit Works Project

The Detroit Works Project is an evolving roadmap in which residents can have their say to create a shared, achievable vision for the city. How are residents using this site? How can it be improved (if needed)? Can we build on this?

Hi Charlotte,
Just wanted to mention how great it was having you bring 'the good gym' to OpenIdeo. Even now, it really jived and sparked with me. It got my gears turning thinking about ways to engage people and human interaction. I ended up putting a concept together: Social Deconstruction-check it out!

I've been talking to The Good Gym out of London, and am going to try to put something together here in Chicago. There's even someone else who had contacted them-happened to be from the Chi too! We'll collaborate and see what happens.

Hats off to Charlotte for her winning OpenUNI concept on our Anniversary Impact Challenge! We're super psyched to be exploring ways to take her underlying notions forward. Nice one, Charlotte – on your impact-oriented thinking and collaborative attitude.

Congrats on your winning "Supermarket Layout" concept Charlotte! Loved the initial insight of making food miles directly tangible through location/convenience in stores/markets. Had enjoyed reading your previous inspirations, and so glad that you've begun contributing concepts now as well!

Charlotte's Redesign the Supermarket concept was a great provocation which was a winner on the Local Food Challenge. She joined us to ideate further at the Queensland Ideas Festival – always a pleasure to meet talented OpenIDEATORS offline as well as online! Keep an eye out for updates on how the challenge is moving forward over on the Local Food Realisation phase: http://bit.ly/localfood_real

You are providing some great ideas Charlotte, maybe we should get an Open IDEO Melbourne meet up group going and use our super powers to take on some local challenges?
