Simon Morfit

As a Sociology Ph.D. candidate at UC Berkeley, I study different initiatives, services, and products that attempt to make society better. I have participated in a diverse range projects across the globe - such as an assessment of how smartphones can improve healthcare in sub-Saharan African to an investigation of how architecture can benefit the urban poor in Latin America. Throughout all my work, I try to understand the human dimensions of design, that is, how design shapes social life and how an appreciation of social life can inform good design.

Simon's brilliant Market Vendors-Clinicians Co-operative concept was a deserving winner on the Grameen Social Business Challenge. It drew well upon on-the-ground insights and mashed-together two groups which would become a strong service offering through partnership. Great stuff Simon – we'e looking forward to you joining us again real soon!

Thanks for the kind words OpenIDEO. You make me want to quit writing my dissertation and work on OpenIDEO challenges full-time! I'm having a lot of fun with these projects. I love being exposed to new ideas and the challenges are a great way to learn about different approaches and strategies to address important issues.
