One reason for me to be on this forum is probably thanks to a book written by Gunter Paulli, « The Blue Economy ». Why is this book different? It’s not a catastrophic story, it is full of solutions and explanation. He is the director of ZERI organization, which stands for zero emission. Indeed we can, reduce our footprint, but our ultimate goal is to achieve the same efficiency as nature. The waste of other species is transformed at room temperature and pressure to create resource for another species. For instance the spider produces silk at 20°, while steel is produced at several hundred degrees.

From his point of view, there are many plants that can cater our needs such as bamboo thanks to its growing speed. The owner of “gardenpool.org” takes advantage of the fast growing Tilapia fish. The deduction is that environmental ideal doesn’t necessarily means being slow. A merger between what nature can offer and industrial need is yet to be define.

Paulli thinks that large companies are often inefficient at handling new source of revenue emerging from their waste. Current manager are not trained in handling new circuit, hence the logical solution is outsourcing. This method has to survive under high pressure of result, fear of cannibalizing other product and approval of stakeholder. Among all those problems, insurance could offer relief. Their goal is to gather more efficient companies.

Sometimes the book presents overwhelming figures, tweaking figures to make their point. Overall his believe sounds attractive as he is trying to learn from nature, twist economical model and using current technology together to bring our society closer to nature.
