Creation from Chaos

Lean Startup, Agile Development, Discovery Driven Planning, Design Thinking, etc....though these emerged from different areas (biz, tech, design), they share the same core: creating from chaos. There's much possibility for cross-fertilization!

Hello Vincent,

I work for Seymourpowell, one of the world's leading design and innovation companies.
Maybe you are interested in commenting on our question: How will sustainability change our approaches to design and innovation over the next few years?

Thank you very much!

Hello!

I am a graduating senior at the University of Michigan Art and Design school working on a thesis project in and around Detroit. I happened across your vibrant cities challenge after the winners were announced and noticed it is exactly what my thesis project is! I understand that the challenge is over, but I was wondering if you could connect me with anyone who is also interested in carrying the concept on after the challenge. I didn't notice a lot of talk in the comments about any continuation, but I would love to hear if you've received any emails from people wanting to make it a reality. I'm panning on moving to Detroit next year and continuing the work I've been doing on my thesis into an actual studio/workshop/skillshare, and it would be great to get connected to people moving and shaking in Detroit!

Thanks!

Hi Dylan,

you're awesome! Great minds think alike, but to get to the point of real world impact requires the talent and dedication to actually make an idea happen like you're doing ;)

Here are my suggestions for connecting with others on this:

(1) REACH OUT TO POTENTIAL COLLABORATORS THROUGH THE CONCEPT: Feel free to post a new comment on my actual "Reclaimed in Detroit" concept ( http://www.openideo.com/open/vibrant-cities/winners-announced/reclaimed-in-detroit/ ) to reach out to those who are reading it. Also, you can contact people who commented on the concept. You could post to their profile, or perhaps preferably see if they have any contact information so you can reach out to them (for example, my profile lists my personal Facebook profile)

(2) CONTACT CHALLENGE SPONSOR (STEELCASE) AND ORGANIZER (OPENIDEO) DIRECTLY:There was some representation from Steelcase participating in this challenge. In fact, if you use the Search Bar at the top right (select search by "Users" in the dropdown, and type in "Steelcase"), you'll get 17 results. Also, OpenIDEO challenges spotlight "Realization" projects (you can see this on some of the other challenges), so you could email their community management account (hello@OpenIDEO.com) to talk about how you're already working on realizing "Reclaimed in Detroit" and seeking collaborators, and hopefully they can shine a spotlight through a dedicated post on your work.

I've also update my "Reclaimed in Detroit" concept to highlight your work on the "What steps could you take to implement this idea today" section, with a link to your thesis blog & OpenIDEO profile. And to get it a little more attention, I also posted this content as a new comment.

-Hope this helps and Best of Luck!
Vincent

Congrats on your continued success here on IDEO, Vincent. I found your concept very inspiring. Wouldn't it be nice if Detroit of all places adopted a green city model? I would definitely go and check THAT out.

Thanks Sarah! Is a topic I'm passionate about and have personal/family experience with. And gratitude for your post on social media in the Arab Spring that definitely helped inspire me, and your great builds on this and other concepts.

Also, given your flow of inspirations on the vibrancy restoration challenge, I'm excited to see the concepts that emerge!

And of course, how could we forget his simple and streamlined solution for our Bone Marrow Donation Challenge? We all hate waiting in line at the DMV, but Vincent's idea makes even renewing our driver licenses much more fun and worthwhile.

January 11, 2011, 02:07PM
Thanks for for encouragement! OpenIDEO has been a very good experience for me. The spirit of collaboration that I have met some people like you are very motivating. Count on my support on their projects and also forgive me if my comments are too harsh or rough. The language is a big hurdle for me, and my online translator does not understand subtleties! I tend to be frank in my opinions too, but I sincerely hope to help build something really good and that really works. Count me in!

Hi Vincent, thank you for your kind comment. It is inspiring reading all your contributions.
November 25, 2010, 06:21PM
Thanks for yor comment, I actually emailed this idea to a member of the dragons den in england, not the program but his venture capitalist firm, I recall it was Peter jones approximate 10 months ago. ago and was emailed back saying they could not accept unsolicited ideas,, I was gutted hence this, all I'm concerned about is that it gets done but I HD this idea years ago.

Thank you Vincent for your encouraging feedback on my very first post. I'm still browsing around Open IDEO, and learning more. By the way, I really like your motto: "A person becomes human through others"... =D
