Paint the Town Red (or any color for that matter...)

Many cities have annual arts events - but with all of the unused "canvas" (buildings, streets, etc...) Detroit could be a mecca for street arts; a permanent exhibition that creates a new identity while spawning significant business activity .

Mt Michigan - a 4 Season Destination

What to do with the megatons of concrete and asphalt that remain from reducing the size of the city. It's too expensive to reclaim or transport - how about creating a mufti-purpose urban recreation destination?

Thumbnail : Recycle Detroit Concept

Recycle Detroit...

That's right - what if we were to literally Recycle Detroit - here's the concept: Reduce: Detroit's population shrunk by 50% since 1950 so a lot of infrastructure isn't needed and is decaying. Let's right-size the city and its expenses by eliminating abandoned structures, neighborhoods, and infrastructure that have little or negative economic value. Reuse: Thousands of properties are abandoned (1), or in poor condition where the cost of rehabilitation and energy upgrades would far exceed their potential value. Let's reuse what makes sense to, and rid emotional attachments to that which does not. Recycle: 1) Build the World's largest recycling center 2) Dismantle structures into reusable components 3) Build a Plasma Furnace (6,7) for disposal and energy cogeneration 4) Challenge colleges and industry to create processes and products fueled by reclaimed material. Reforest: Encourage ecological succession (8,9); this is already underway with Greening of Detroit (10).
