I managed programs in secure computation, secure data, quantum information science and AI over ten years at Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.

BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Michael Hsieh is the Executive Director of FDD’s Transformative Cyber Innovation Lab and serves as an advisor to FDD’s Cyber-Enabled Economic Warfare project. He previously served as a program manager in the Information Innovation Office at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). His focus was on quantitative and cryptographic techniques for establishing provable security in big data and software. Prior to that, he was a research scientist at Science Applications International Corporation and a scientific consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton. Most recently, Michael received a Council on Foreign Relations’ International Affairs Fellowship to work with the Japanese government to assess the prospect of developing high-risk/high-reward research institutions in Japan to support the U.S.-Japan security partnership. He earned his bachelor’s degrees in economics and mathematics at the University of California, Berkeley and his PhD in chemistry at Princeton University.
